I care so little about football. I learn the bare minimum so that when my students try to engage me in a conversation about football (which is hourly) I can reply with something like: “mumble mumble, oh yeah backup refs mumble mumble.”
Impassioned facebook stati about Tim Tebow or Orange and Blue or “Rising Up BYU…” they bounce off me like a ping pong ball. I wouldn’t say they infuriate me the way political status updates do. But every time I see something about “hating the Raiders,” I just shake my head and get on with my superior “football free lifestyle.”
Of course, the general quandary about facebook status updates caused me to reflect ever-so-slightly on what I’m posting these days. My status updates, you see, they tend to be very thematic. Lately I’ve been making conscious efforts to squeeze out life updates that aren’t about teaching or Hufflepuff. So I guess I realize that there are people that care as little about my hedgehog (hard to believe) as I do about Payton Manning.
So… In effort to reform, in effort to see the way the majority of Americans live, and in effort to have something to mumble about with some of my junior boy students… I went to my high school’s football game.
And while I understood nary a rule, and while I grimaced just a little at the parents barking at the coaches, I have to admit… I jumped up and down at every touchdown.
It was nice to know that football can be fun.
…But I’m secretly glad that there is little to no chance that any son (or daughter) of ours will be bulky enough to fill out those football shoulder pads.
oh gosh, i really dont like football. i dont like that its football season, because i dont care. i really have no opinion about it and i don't care to. maybe i'm just a brat, but there are many more other things that id rather do.

You went in Friday? I was there! Also I would still really like to be properly introduced to a little someone.

I am so proud of you. Spencer's life is football and I am having to learn the same thing: it can kinda be fun
I do not understand football AT ALL – in fact, in may be one of the reasons I moved away from the us (i kid…) I just don't get it!
