Today was a special day, and here’s how I know it: I napped for an hour. A Whole Hour.

I am a frequent napper but usually only for five-ten minute bursts. I call these “synapses,” because they are short like a synapse and help me get something working again. But today, I had a genuine nap, though it was nothing special in and of itself. In fact, it gave me a headache afterwards.

It’s what the nap means that is so special. The nap means I went to bed late and woke up early. The nap means that I’ve been outside in the sticky hot. The nap means that I’ve been running around carrying heavy things, and thinking heavy thoughts. It means that I’m so excited about something that I haven’t had the self-control to tell myself to slow down, so my body had to slow down for me.

I got my classroom today. And it’s large and it’s blank, and I when I got there, there school handyman told me that I would be receiving white boards shortly. White Boards. This might not seem like a big deal to you, but I smiled myself giddy about it all afternoon. My classroom has four cork boards that haven’t been hung yet too. I made a trip to Walmart and bought a few things, but mostly I just sat at my desk (My Desk!) and thought about how completely excited I am to have my own classroom.

I am the cork board queen.

My desk covered with computer cords that intimidate me and that I’m waiting for someone else to deal with.
But isn’t my desk beautiful?
Also: Note the punishment chair next to my desk for which ever kid happens to misbehave (it’s just peeking out the corner of this picture). But… is it really a punishment if they get to sit next to me?!

Did I just hear you think this classroom is plain? Shame on you, it’s filled with potential.
I love my archaic TV. I love it.

Exciting year for you! You're at Timpview, right? That is where Kent graduated from, and one of his closest friends, Nate Warner, is a counselor there….tell him hello from us! I also have a niece and nephew that go there. Good luck on a fantastic year…I have a feeling you'll be amazing…and that you'll be accused of being a student more than a few times before the year is up! 🙂

No, you didn't hear me think that classroom was plain. You heard me covet.

There is a very real possibility that I took the ACT in that room. I'm not positive, but it's possible. Also, good luck with that TV. Either it won't work and your students will insist on watching the video announcements in a neighboring classroom, or the neighboring classroom will be invading your room for about 5 minutes to watch them on one of the few functioning archaic TVs around. So exciting! Best of luck–tell Mrs. Van Orden hi for me! 🙂
